Michael Jackson Interviews and Costumes

with one comment

It’s a well-known fact that an interview and Michael Jackson were not friends. He was always greatly concerned and, justifiably so, that the media would twist his words into whatever meaning they chose. He was a very private person and the interview with Michael and Oprah in 1993 was his first in 14 years.

He was extremely adept at disguising himself whenever he chose to go out in public. In the 90’s he visited children in hospitals on a regular basis and wore various degrees of costume disguises in order to avoid being recognized and, most of all, in an attempt to avoid the cursed paparazzi. His outlandish mode of dress gave birth to the huge quantity of costumes that are available at both online and retail stores this year. It is projected that Halloween 2009 will be THE YEAR of the Michael Jackson costume albeit in a vast variety of styles.

From the Oprah interview in 1993 to the Jesse Jackson interview in 2005…12 years…Michael only gave a total of 15 interviews – slightly more than 1 per year ! You must agree that amount is far less than the average number for most other personalities in the public spotlight. He was interviewed by only the absolute best – Barbara Walters, Geraldo Rivera, 60 Minutes, and Oprah among specific others from the major television networks and their interviewers. An interview with Michael Jackson was a prize that eluded most and was most highly sought-after by the entire entertainment media industry.

As the years rolled by from 1993….Michael’s mode of apparel became increasingly unusual and complex. He always wore a jacket of some description – all had either some form of appliqué or ornamental stitching. It is those jackets that have been instrumental in forming the bulk of the costume industry’s endeavor to re-create his “look” for the many admirers.  These will form the bulk of those who will appear in his guise on and around October 31 of this year.

A Michael Jackson interview was never dull. On the contrary – because his life was so full of controversy on a regular basis – the discussion could [and usually did] venture into strange and uncharted territory. And, of course, there was always his appearance – what was he wearing, his hair [wigs since the Pepsi fire], his makeup, and so much more. I, for one, am looking forward to “All-Hallows Eve” [October 31] this year in order to see the huge array of all the ‘little’ Michael Jacksons that will fill our streets.

I have included, for your inspection, a large assortment of Michael Jackson costumes that you can easily access by clicking here.
